How to: Make Pine Cones

We love the smell of pine cones in the fall! One of our vendors, Karen McElroy makes some fabulous smelling pine cones. We love the mix of cinnamon and nature in the store. Today we'll walk you through how to make them in your own home.

  • pine cones
  • oven
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • water
  • cinnamon oil
  • Ziploc bag

1. Start by baking the pine cones at 300. Once they open up (you'll be able to tell when they do), take them out and let them cool for a bit.

2.  While still on the pan, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over them.

3. Next, combine cinnamon oil with 1/8 cup of water in a spray bottle and spray the pinecones.  Make sure to only spray a bit so the pinecones aren't fully soaked.

4. Let the pine cones dry for a few minutes and put them in a bag together.

5. Wait approximately 4 weeks before opening the bag. This ensures that the pinecones soak up all of the smell so they smell longer.
